WSORG ARTICLE WRITTEN 9.04.02- "A Day in the Life of James IV"
A Day in the Life of James Intergalactic by Beatie Boys was playing in the background. I looked down at my U.S. History AP book and on page four was "Planetary Perspectives." (The song goes: Intergalactic, planetary, planetary, intergalactic.) Maybe it's a sign! It's 10:44p.m. right now, and I'm debating whether or not to spend another five thousand words narrating my first day of school? Yeah, I know I missed American Idol purposely to do my English homework. The assignment was to write a timeline about your past writing experiences. Of course, I went overboard and wrote two pages- but it's writing- the thing I love to do! Plus, how can you keep sixteen years to a page?
... continuing with today's news: The day started at 2a.m. for me- I was busy finishing my summer reading notes which, on account of Mr. Sanford's lenient persona, are actually due Monday. Shall I take time to demonstrate me smacking my head? I dragged myself out of bed and made my way to the mirror. I shifted my face to see my tired eyes. I said: "James, you mofo, this is the first day of your Junior year. You better not fuck up. Also, don't forget to be a mackin." Outside was pouring rain and those days are when I like to sleep in the most. Took me around thirty minutes in the bathroom to get ready. Yes, the signature Acqua Di Gio, the gel for sharp deadly hair, and lots of other things- My toiletries per say. Indeed it was raining heavily- When I made my way towards Longwood Medical Area to Boston Latin, my Claiborne pants were half soaked. I kicked the water out of my dress shoes and made my way into the familiar school scene. Headmaster Ms. Kelly was waiting for everybody with an umbrella in hand. The procedure is if you arrive before 7:25 you wait in the cafeteria along with the other thousand or so students. (I forgot the actual head count at BLS) I merely sat down at the nearest table to the door. Too many familiar faces and quite a few new ones. Philson passed by, Sam was waiting in line, Mikhail said Hi, and hundreds of people I knew were eagerly awaiting their ascension or destruction of their academic year. Needless to say, Junior year is extremely important- the most. This is when you build your portfolio for all those artificial schools and colleges. You can be an asshole- but with a 5.0 GPA, an asshole who gets the better school. Today was all about first impressions. It was the first day I've seen Leon wear jeans in school! Today you meet your teachers and peers for the first time, and you will learn to live with them for 180 days. If you read my previous entries, you'd know I was actually excited to go back to school. True, this is the period of time where you are hyper-active and want to do your best with your work. Obviously, you'll never be like this for the entire year unless you have the orthodox Asian (not AZN in this case.) parents. Exampli Gratia: Derek and Xuan. I got assigned to homeroom 125- found out asking the teacher since I threw the envelope with the number out. Yes, it's the W,X,Y,Zs- 90% Asian in all respect. I recognized nearly everyone there. It was the second year I had Ke in my homeroom. Before being assigned seats- I sat next to Qi-Wei, Gordon, Jeff, Bo, and Wayne. There were also Fang, Henry, Kenny, Garfy, Nancy, Anne, Adrianna, Yuan, Wu-Ching (correction, Mu Ching: she told me this after reading the news.), and other names I can't seem to bring up at the moment. Around over two hours of homeroom to do paperwork and go on AIM on my Nokia. I have to say, after being screwed by the school system for two straight years- getting hardest (not meanest) teachers: Ms. Shea and Ms. Insanally, I have finally been blessed with what I presume to be the perfect schedule. Day one follows like so: 1st Period: English AP Composition (Master: Ms. Shevlin ^-^), 2nd Period: Precalculus (not a sad face but maybe (';') for neutral. I don't like his strict demeanor, but he's a good teacher), 3rd Period: Français Quatrieme Année Honours w/ Ms. Valentin (we had to speak French the first day! Whew, at least I passed. Je suis né le vingt-huit mars. J'aime les ordinateurs et je joue au volleyball.) The schedule is screwed up for the first two days so I had 1st lunch now. I won't bother saying who was in my French class since they're are too many I know. First lunch is great with Qi-wei, Leon, Vinoo, and the rest being there. We still need to establish our Asian table. Xuan's in it also- so yeah, pretty interesting ... Fifth period was Latin III with Dr. Carroll: The young one, thank god! He's such an enthusiastic teacher! And it will be much easier than Ms. Shea. Ms. Shea, isn't a bad teacher- she is merely traditional and kind of strict- but I kind of know how she feels. Well, most people just get straight Cs in her class. The funniest thing happened in that class. As you may (or may not know) Leon (along with everyone in Class B) is in the class. Like how he was two years straight, Leon fell asleep during the introduction, on the first day of school. So he had his head in the book, and Dr. Carroll just stopped talking and looked at him. Obviously the class erupted in guffaw! And Leon was still sleeping! That wasn't the funny part even! We were practicing reciting Latin after being dormant for three months- and getting to know everyone's names. The teacher asked "Quid est nomen tibi?" - which means "What is your name?" And we had to respond in a full sentence with "Nomen mihi est ..." This is from the updated quotes section:
Dr. Carroll: Quid est nomen tibi?
Leon: (after recovering from sleeping in Latin class) Oh, Leon.
::pause for guffaw and laughter effect from class::
James: No, look at the board. Mihi..
Leon: Oh, um, no.. hmm- Needo Specto Glasso. ::falls back asleep::
LOL, ROFL- just hilarious. Dr. Carroll is a wiz with words and languages as well. He let on his understanding of Russian, Deutsche, Français, and espanol. (After all, we hear him talk to Ms. Shea and Mme. Brun in French all the time.) I learned that an "ort" in the English language means residue on a plate. I.E., left-overs. "Mother, excuse my ort- I need to finish my homework now." And even though sic in Latin means "yes"- he reminded us that "Ita" would also do- it means indeed. After Latin II, was my study class- where I just dozed off and the teacher came in 5 minutes before the end to take attendance. Usually, I sign a pass to go to the library to chat on AIM or to upload wolfyserver files. (It's not really allowed but with such an ignorant I.T. guy who checks Internet Explorer history and not Netscape...) Last two periods were ELA Honours and U.S. History A.P. with Ms. Kirkpatrick, whom I was informed will screw me over because of her hard classes. I'm ready for anything! Mr. Sanford was the guy proctoring my A.P. entrance examination for English Composition. He's a cool guy (it's been forever since I've used "cool") who'll let us watch movies of plays (Macbeth and others), eat in class (not sandwiches), and use a panda bear as a bathroom pass. He teaches college students after school so he's pretty in touch with adolescents and adults. Immediately, I knew this was going to be a great class. We're going to do poetry too! I sit next to Pei and Bo at the moment. Last class of the day (in all 20 minutes' brevity) was U.S. History A.P. - From the course overview it seems we will be doing a lot of reading, not writing. Suits me just fine! Since I'll need to read more than write to become a better author. Plus this balances out two writing classes! I like the teacher even though people say she's very hard. Well, we do have pop-quizzes almost everyday. That reminds me, I need to sign 2 agreements for school tomorrow. Leon was making monkey faces at me and obviously wasn't paying attention. The day ended- I walked around and spoke with friends. Then I decided to head home to get some rest. I watched the first 40 minutes of the 2-hour American Idle Finale. Then I just went to my computer and typed up my English homework. Oh damn! How stupid of me! Rolling on Floor Laughing: I have TV tuner on my computer with my All in Wonder Radeon 7500 64mb DDR. Ack! And so ends my day. It's 11:30 now, and I still haven't read my History homework. Only nine pages though. I have to wash my laundry!
